Cheaper Website Isn’t Always Better

A prospective client reached out to Rootless Agency asking for a proposal for a new website. After an initial consultation, Rootless Agency submitted a proposal. The client chose a cheaper website agency.

After a time, when we hadn’t heard a response, we followed up and were told that our proposal was too expensive. Well, we asked ourselves… “Compared to what?”

This happens from time to time in agencies as we are very thorough and don’t cut corners.  

And then, unexpectedly …

After about a month and a half, the prospect called us and said he had made a mistake by going with the cheaper website agency. He had hired another, less expensive agency, and he hated what they had done. Apparently, errors were made, and important information was left out. The company he hired built a website in two weeks, chose stock photographs, and launched the website that included services the company didn’t even offer. The owner was frantic that his company’s reputation was in jeopardy.

We began working with Boston Doors and Windows to accomplish the client’s important list of “must haves” for his website. This included creating a digital presence as Boston Doors and Windows had none at that time. Joe, the owner, wanted a website where his prospects could see what the company had done for others. He wanted website visitors to learn how his company operates and how he is different from his competitors.

A Cheaper Website Can Hurt Your Branding

Sindi, one of the designers at Rootless Agency, explained that a logo is the centerpiece of a company’s brand. While Joe was the founder of Boston Doors and Windows which began in 2018, the company didn’t have a branding strategy. Together with Joe, Rootless Agency designed a logo that graphically shows an open door within the company name. The agency worked on the website, explaining what the company does, giving a bit of history about the company and its founder, and describing its various services.

Content focused on achieving SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that individuals searching for door and/or window installation can be directed to Boston Doors and Windows and to the area they are interested in.

Rootless Agency took photographs of various projects that demonstrate each of the services Boston Doors and Windows offers. Crisp custom photos show the company’s detailed workmanship and feature concise text and a “Call to Action” on each page. Many testimonials to the work Joe provides appear on the website as well, lending credibility to him and his detailed craftsmanship. It is quickly apparent that his clients love working with him. In fact, 70% to 80% of his clients refer him to others!

We provided the client with a comprehensive solution, including branding, project photography, and a website, far beyond what a cheaper website alone could offer.

Beyond a Cheaper Website: Investing in Long-Term Success

It has now been over a year since Rootless Agency started working with Boston Doors and Windows to help support continuing marketing of the brand. Rootless Agency recently created a van wrap for Boston Doors and Windows, creating an “advertisement on wheels” for the company. The client has requested additional custom photography, a window installation video, and print designs for advertising in professional magazines. 

After the initial launch of the website, reviews increased, and the client received 20 to 30 leads per month with no paid advertising. Rootless Agency continues to do local targeting through content.
